As we know video sharing websites like YouTube allow users to share, post or upload any video. Hence, some movies, dramas or TV shows had be broadcasted through this video sharing websites to satisfied others users’ demand. Piracy issue becomes the impedence for the progress of video sharing websites. It is regarding about legal and ethical issue in using video sharing websites (Stair & Reynolds, 2010). YouTube can be sued if it uploads the copyrighted movie, drama or music without permission from the original author or publisher. Moreover, some users will use this opportunity to download the movies, drama or TV shows and copy them into VCD or DVD and sell them. Consequently, the demand of video sharing users cannot be fully satisfied. Therefore, copyright can be applied into video websites to avoid piracy issues exist. These “copy cat” only put a little effort to get the profit rather than the original author and publisher who contribute a lot of effort and cost to produce a movie. Thus, it is unfair for the original author and publisher who lost a large amount of revenue. Therefore, video portal websites are established which is an alternative of video sharing websites. Qvod and PPS are the examples of video portal websites which upload or share the movies, dramas and popular TV shows for the websites users. All of these video portal websites had got the copyright to the movies, dramas and TV shows that are uploaded.
In addition, if a freelancer is helping you record a video, he or she automatically is the owner of the video (Daliah, as cited in Crowell). Hence, you should get permission from the freelancer or hire the freelancer as your videographer if want get the video copyright. We still can protect our video copyright once the video is uploaded to the YouTube? Well, as Doliah has stated that in YouTube terms of service, it require that a creator video is sharing the video ownership with it once the video is uploaded.

With SOPA and PIPA, people cannot simply take videos without acknowledging and paying the original author. Therefore, copyright is important.

Acknowledge of copyright and ownership is still a question, people tend to be ignorant though they have a sense that copyright is an important issue.
