Just in case you did not know, Youtube is a platform for any individuals to express themselves which will then be broadcasted to everyone or anyone who is in the online community. Not only is it free to sign up and upload, but the longevity of the video uploaded remains as long as it does not violate Youtube policies.
Nuff said of Youtube.
We will be talking on the advantage of video sharing in this post mostly. Therefore what exactly are the advantage/benefit?
Generally, traditional media such as the mainstream newspapers and radios serve the agenda of the ruling party only. The existence of such online video sharing websites allow us right-minded and democratic individuals to post and upload our support and even dissatisfaction over the web. In Malaysia, there are no channels for citizens to voice out themselves if their agenda is not coherent with those of the government. As such, video sharing proves to be the means of self expression we so rightly deserved and yet denied in this democratic country.
We have heard of Lynas desire of setting up in Malaysia in which the government of Malaysia Following the issue, there have been various individuals who have gone their way of putting up their resentment and protest regarding Lynas.
We have seen video of local Australian speaking in Malay protesting Lynas.
We have also watched Namewee, a local Malaysian who protested Lynas through rapping and singing to increase awareness of the danger of Lynas although in a quite inappropriate manner. Still, fellow Malaysians supported him and shared his video throughout in protest of Lynas.
Is online video sharing the new trend? As we can see, online video sharing is becoming a major channel of expression as well as channel of information today. What better way to get noticed and get your voices heard. The web allows people to express themselves through putting up their own sites, ... and Youtube postings. The web offers an extraordinary explosion of opportunity for creativity and expression (Gauntlett, 2004: 166 as cited in Lister and et. al: 2009:166). We understand that the lack of freedom accounts to the viral spread of video as well as the spotlight on video sharing websites. Without this channel, where could we possibly get ourselves heard?
So, why wait anymore? Get yourself broadcasted and share your voices with the rest of the world.

It is always a good idea to go broadcasted and having own voices shared to the whole world. On the other hand, the users should have acknowledge too the risk of having too much freedom of speech,if only our country doesn't have much censorship on the content. Just have to get prepared not to be caught and speak out the mind anytime one's like. well, jump away from the politics, with the high chances of access to internet, the under-represented or unheard could find a way to express wholly about what they wished to say no matter what it is all about.
Oh you are right about sharing video is a new trend. But sometimes a trend does not mean that they really understand the issue. Some just do it for the sake of popularity. I remember watching this video of a girl acting all cute and stuff talking about Lynas project. But the troubling thing about the video is, she has no idea what is Lynas all about. All i remember from her is, "Lynas is so "pek chek"...Hello Kitty will also "pek chek." And i have no idea what does pek chek means. It is good it becomes a trend, but it is a bad thing when people support it just to gain popularity and fame.
It has always been a controversial issue with the "freedom of speech" on youtube. We are encouraged to speak out our mind, but what about the consequences that follows? People are always more outspoken and daring when it is on the internet. But please bare in mind, you are not invisible nor untraceable. If what you say or do is offensive or against the law, actions will always be taken. That is why majority of us practice self-censorhip and more often, being a angry-coward. ><
